Audiology

  • For Patients and Families

The Division of Audiology at Cincinnati Children’s offers a wide range of hearing testing and therapy for children and their families. Our services are designed specifically for children, and we are specialists in caring for infants and children with special needs.

    Hearing Tests and Treatment

Hearing testing is one of the most common services we provide. We can test for hearing impairments in children as young as infants. Infant hearing testing takes place while your child is asleep. Testing for older children and adolescents is conducted using a listening game format.

If we detect a hearing loss in your child, we can provide a number of  treatment options. Depending on the nature and severity of the hearing deficit, we may suggest listening therapy, hearing aids or a cochlear implant. Our therapies are tailored to fit your child’s unique needs.

    Specialized Care for Your Child

The Division of Audiology treats children with many different healthcare needs including hearing loss, persistent ear disease, problems with speech and language, and balance problems. We also conduct hearing screening referrals, and can assess infants with risk factors associated with hearing loss. If you are concerned about your child’s hearing, or your child has school performance issues that may be related to a hearing deficit, contact us to request an evaluation.

We offer services at the Burnet Campus and the 3430 Building, and at the Liberty Campus, Mason Campus and Anderson, Eastgate, Fairfield, Harrison and Kentucky neighborhood locations.

    Preparing for Your Visit

You can take a number of steps to ensure your child’s visit with us is as effective as possible. Please bring a list of your child’s medications, including dose information, to the appointment. Also, bring information from the school about your child’s hearing, and a list of the names of other professionals who care for your child. This will help us identify any hearing problems your child may have, and create a treatment plan that fits your child’s specific needs.
