The Hemoglobinopathy Laboratory is part of the Division of Hematology in the Cancer and Blood Diseases Institute. The laboratory performs qualitative and quantitative tests that lead to the diagnosis and treatment of hereditary disorders that principally affect erythrocytes in the pediatric and adult populations.
These disorders include hemoglobinopathies, hereditary hemolytic disorders such as glucose-6-dehydrogenase deficiency, thalassemia, and other hemoglobin variants.
We also perform comprehensive genetic testing for thalassemias and hemoglobinopathies in partnership with the Molecular Genetics Laboratory.The clinical laboratories are in compliance with all major regulatory agencies, including:
