Give to the Comprehensive Children's Injury Center

At Cincinnati Children's, we have made reducing the prevalence of pediatric injuries in our community part of our strategic plan. Specifically, the mission of the Comprehensive Children’s Injury Center (CCIC) is to reduce the burden of intentional and unintentional injury on the health and well-being of children and adolescents by being the leader in injury prevention, research, clinical outcomes, education, and advocacy.

With this mission in mind, one of our key aims is to serve families throughout the entire Cincinnati region with their child passenger safety needs. The CCIC is available to both hospital patients and children in the community to provide education on the different car seats available—from traditional models to those specifically designed for children with special healthcare needs. We provide free car seat checks to demonstrate proper installation, and we can answer all of your questions about child passenger safety laws and recommendations.

Additionally, we have developed community-based programs for all ages aimed at reducing the occurrence of pediatric injuries across our region.  Our home safety program offers families with children under five a comprehensive in-home educational visit and free safety equipment installed on the spot.  Families receiving our home safety bundle have decreased their likelihood of having a child visit our Emergency Room by up to 59%.  Older kids benefit from our helmet and bike safety outreach programs, and our safety-in-a-box community educational presentations.  As children enter their teenage years, our concussion awareness and safe teen driving programs offer education, tools, and resources to help keep them safe and healthy too!
