    This nationally approved model offers didactic and experiential learning intended to lay the foundation of research-informed practices for those professionals who interview children about witnessing a crime or experiencing child abuse or maltreatment.

    Registration

    Tuition for the five-day Child Forensic Interviewing Training is $925.  Lunches and light snacks are provided.  A late fee of $50 will be added if payment is not received within 30 days after training is completed.

    Course / Program Description

    The five-day Child Forensic Interviewing course

    • Is intended for professionals who interview children about suspected child maltreatment and/or family violence
    • Includes lectures, small and large group activities, practice interviews, and peer review practice which provide ample opportunity for interdisciplinary collaboration and team building
    • Offers an evidence-based protocol as well as practice-informed content; both structured and flexible approaches are discussed
    • Focuses on the benefit and application of narrative practice in interviews
    • Is designed to have participants evaluate both the art and science of interviews (both self and others)
    • Focuses on issues of protection and prosecution, teaching techniques that are scientifically sound and legally defensible
    • Offers basic content on special populations (children with developmental delays, reticent children, children who witness violence)
    • Integrates cultural sensitivity  throughout content
    • Applies research on memory and suggestibility, communicative competence with children, and the impact of trauma on children’s abilities to narrate effectively
    • Provides information regarding interview aids, such as drawings and dolls
    • Offers guidelines for report preparation and court testimony
