Overweight 2 to 6 Year Olds Needed for Weight Management Research Study
What is the purpose of this study?
The purpose of this research study is
to bring together parents and health care professionals to address young childhood
obesity, which may lead to improved outcomes for current and future patients
and families.
Who can participate?
Overweight or obese 2 to 6 year olds who
have been attending the HealthWorks! program and have a parent or legal
guardian who is also willing to take part in the study may be eligible to
participate.
What is involved?
You
and your child will be a part of this study for a total of 6 months. Some of the procedures that will take place during the study
are:
- One (1) focus group with
parents/guardians of obese toddlers to identify barriers and determine
appropriate solutions to eliminate their barriers
- One (1) follow-up phone call after
collaborative meeting to discuss progress and any additional ideas
What are the benefits?
Your child might not receive a direct
medical benefit however; the potential benefits to participating in this study
may be weight stabilization, improved Body Mass Index (BMI) or a reduced risk
for diseases or conditions associated with obesity. The information gained from
this study may
also benefit other overweight children in the
future.
Will I get all the facts about the study?
You will be given a consent form that
thoroughly explains all of the details of the study. The consent form covers
the potential risks and benefits, who to contact with questions or concerns and
more. The researcher will review the consent form with you to ensure all
questions are answered. Study procedures will not begin until you have signed
this consent form.
Do participants receive pay, compensation or reimbursement?
Families will not be paid for this
