Clinical Trials Office

Healthy Babies Newborn to 12 Months Old Needed For Research Study

What is the purpose of this study?

Cincinnati Children’s is conducting a research study, sometimes known as a clinical trial or clinical study, to compare the MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) brain images of healthy children to MRI brain images of children with a specific medical condition. There is no radiation associated with the MRIs.

Who can participate?

Healthy babies newborn to 12 months old may be eligible to participate.

Conditions

  • Healthy Infants, Children and Adolescent Studies

What is involved?

The study lasts for approximately 2 years. The study consists of 2-3 visits. The following is a list of procedures that will take place during the study:

Your child will:

  • Have an MRI brain scan
  • Take intelligence tests and other behavioral and neuropsychological tests

You, as the parent, will be asked to complete questionnaires about your child’s behavior and disposition.

What are the benefits?

The neuropsychological (looking at how the brain functions) testing administered by a certified neuropsychologist and a brief IQ report will be provided free of charge. Your child may receive no other direct benefit from participating in this study. The greatest benefit is that your child may be contributing to research that helps other children in the future.

Will I get all the facts about the study?

Parents/guardians will be given a consent form that thoroughly explains all of the details including the procedures, the risks, the benefits, the pay, contact persons and more.  A member of the study staff will review the consent form with you and will make sure that all of your questions are answered. Study procedures will not begin until a parent or guardian has signed this form.

Do participants receive pay, compensation or reimbursement?

Families may receive up to $225 for time and travel at $75 per visit.
