• Genodermatoses Center

The Genodermatoses Center provides comprehensive, multidisciplinary evaluation and management for children and adults with known or suspected genetic disorders that have genetic and dermatologic involvement.

The Genetics team in this clinic will:

    • Collect and assess the patient’s detailed medical and family history information
    • Perform a thorough physical examination of the patient
    • Provide genetics‐related education
    • Discuss the benefits and limitations of genetic testing
    • Provide up‐to‐date information regarding legal protections against genetic discrimination
    • Coordinate genetic testing
    • Interpret the genetic testing results
    • Provide comprehensive genetic counseling regarding heritability and recurrence risk

Parents often wonder if their insurance will pay for genetic services. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that insurance will pay for genetic services.  We encourage our patients to contact their insurance company to find out more information about their coverage regarding this service. However, in almost all cases, the genetics team will assist patients in working with their insurance company once it is determined which genetic tests are appropriate. Additionally, patients and their family members are also provided the opportunity to meet with a financial counselor in private to review the options available to them. Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center will not deny services to any patient for financial reasons.
