    Physician Training Opportunities

    Child Abuse Pediatrics Fellowship

    The three-year fellowship prepares physicians for an academic and clinical career in the field of child abuse. Through a broad range of experiences, fellows develop proficiency in clinical care, research, teaching and administration.

    Nurse Training Opportunities

    Pediatric Sexual Abuse Nurse Examiner (Pediatric SANE) Training

    This training will prepare Registered Nurses and Advanced Practice Registered Nurses to acutely evaluate and care for pediatric and adolescent sexual assault and abuse patients.  The course faculty includes the interdisciplinary team members of Cincinnati Children’s Child Abuse Team.

    Course content includes pediatric growth and development, the team approach to the care and investigation of child sexual assault or abuse, the dynamics of child sexual assault and abuse, identification and documentation of injuries, evidence collection protocols and procedures, sexually transmitted infections, case scenario discussions, legal system overview  and colposcopic and digital photo documentation.

    Our four-day didactic training must be supplemented with clinical experience at the attendee’s hospital.

    Prevention Training

    Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Training

    The Mayerson Center has two staff members trained to facilitate a three-hour child sexual abuse prevention training through Darkness to Light (D2L), an international nonprofit organization. The mission of D2L is to empower people to prevent child sexual abuse. Darkness to Light’s Stewards of Children is a revolutionary sexual abuse prevention training program that educates adults to prevent, recognize and react responsibly to child sexual abuse, and motivates them to courageous action. The Stewards of Children program is designed for organizations and corporations that serve children and youth.

    • 2.5 continuing education hours are available for social workers and counselors.
    • 2.5 continuing professional education hours are available for nurses.
