Wellness programs are designed to improve overall health and encourage a more active lifestyle. Your child can take part in aquatic wellness classes whether he is involved in therapy or not within the Divisions of Occupational and Physical Therapy and Therapeutic Recreation. Each session includes classes that take place in a group setting.
This class focuses on:
This group is for children with conditions such as Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA) or weight management issues, and those recovering from illness or injury. Children must be able to walk in the water without an assistive device, be at least 45 inches tall, and able to follow directions and be comfortable in the water.

This class is open to teens that have an acquired brain injury including a traumatic brain injury, stroke, brain tumor and/or encephalitis. The focus is:
Teens must be able to walk in the water independently without an assistive device. The use of a flotation device is permitted.
This class promotes sensory processing through play and sensory experiences and focuses on the following:
Caregivers may be required to get in the pool with the child. Children must be at least 45 inches tall.
Cincinnati Children's aquatic staff completes specialized training to provide aquatic classes. Cincinnati Children's also offers aquatic therapy for a variety of diagnoses. The warm water pool at our Drake neighborhood location has an adjustable floor allowing easy entry and height adjustment.
Children and teens with the following diagnoses can benefit from this program (not all inclusive): weight management, recovering from illness / injury, JIA, fibromyalgia, lupus, hemophilia, acquired brain injury, stroke, brain tumor, encephalitis, autism, sensory processing disorder, developmental coordination disorder, developmental delay, cerebral palsy, and down syndrome.
Aquatic wellness classes take place in a group setting. Caregivers may be required to get in the pool with the child. Children must be at least 45 inches tall.
