Hand Therapy
We offer specialized therapies for the shoulder, arm and hand for children, adolescents and young adults.
Our occupational therapists and physical therapists who specialize in hand therapy undergo extensive training in rehabilitation of conditions that affect the shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand. Our therapists work collaboratively with your family and your referring physician to determine the best treatment plan for your child.

How Therapy Benefits Each Patient
Our hand therapists will create a customized therapy program based on your child's needs. Hand therapy can benefit your child in many ways:
- Decreases pain and stiffness
- Increases movement and strength
- Improves your child's ability to use the affected extremity for self-care, work and play
- Improves appearance through wound, scar and edema management techniques
- Builds confidence and self-esteem by enabling your child to use the affected extremity successfully
Making an Appointment
A referral from your child's physician or certified nurse practitioner is needed before we can schedule a hand therapy appointment. This ensures that all your child's medical needs are coordinated through his primary or specialty care physician. Even if another professional recommends this therapy, we must have a written referral from your child's doctor before we can schedule an appointment. The referral can be on the physician's letterhead or prescription form.
We also work collaboratively with the physicians of Cincinnati Children's Hand and Upper Extremity Center.
