Athletic Training Program and Outreach

Sports Medicine athletic trainers at Cincinnati Children’s support students in their efforts to achieve both their athletic and academic goals by partnering with schools to provide sports healthcare and education.

Who are Athletic Trainers?

Athletic trainers are health care professionals who collaborate with physicians to provide:

  • Clinical exams and diagnosis
  • Emergency care
  • Injury rehabilitation
  • Preventive services
  • Therapeutic intervention

Our athletic trainers also treat the following illnesses and emergency injuries:

  • Asthma attack
  • Concussion
  • Diabetic emergencies
  • Heat stroke
  • Sickle cell crisis
  • Spine injuries
  • Sudden cardiac arrest

Jessica is a Kentucky native and received her bachelor’s degree in athletic training from Northern Kentucky University in 2015. While at NKU, she worked with several high schools, college softball and Cincinnati Ballet. Following college Jessica worked as an athletic trainer for ESPN Wide World of Sports as well as Disney Theme Parks. She also worked as a professional dancer/performer in Orlando and across the US. Upon returning to KY, Jessica worked for a local physical therapy clinic where she focused on Pilates based rehab. As a former dancer and trampoline and tumbling gymnast, Jessica has always had a passion for dance and gymnastics and continues that passion as an Athletic Trainer. Along with working at Cincinnati Children’s, Jessica leads dance and gymnastics injury prevention classes for local studios and gyms. When not working she enjoys coaching, boating and traveling.

Simon is from West Chester, Ohio where he graduated from Lakota East High School in 2017. He attended Ohio University where he earned a bachelor of science in athletic training degree in 2021. Simon's interest in athletic training started after battling various injuries as a high school XC and track runner, and learning about the rehab process. His passion for helping others and interest in athletic led him to pursue a career in sports medicine. He started his career at Cincinnati Children's as the head athletic trainer for Western Hills High School in 2021. Simon enjoys running, playing basketball, and hanging out with friends in his free time.

I am from Harrison Ohio, graduating from Harrison High School in 2017. Throughout high school I did cheerleading, tennis, swimming, and track. I was also a gymnast and went to Cincinnati Gymnastics Academy for 10 years. I then went to Bowling Green State University, graduating in 2020 with a bachelor’s in exercise science. At BGSU I was a part of a club gymnastics team. After graduating from BGSU I came back home to go to Xavier University to get my master’s in athletic training, graduating in May 2023. Throughout grad school I had a variety of different rotations including high schools, college, CGA, Cincinnati Ballet, and the Cincinnati Cyclones. I am a member of NATA. In my free time I like to spend time with family and friends. I love to take my dog on walks, and I love to travel to new places.

Aurora is from the New England area where she graduated from Pinkerton Academy in 2017. Aurora was a competitive cheerleader throughout high school earning numerous accolades including her EMT-B license. She was a practicing EMT-B while continuing her studies at Plymouth State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in Allied Health Sciences in 2021 and her Master of Athletic Training in 2022. While studying at PSU, Aurora covered almost every sport her D3 school offered and took initiative to seek unique experiences through internships. She worked alongside some of the best as a student AT with the Charlotte Checkers, an AHL professional hockey team. Her passion for the performing arts and action sports was found while working as an intern at Woodward Action Sports camp. Aurora comes to us from North Carolina where she worked at Western Carolina University covering women’s basketball and cheerleading. Aside from providing high-quality health care, she also took on the role of insurance coordinator for the university. She is a member of the NATA. When Aurora’s not working, she enjoys going on nature walks with her dog, sketching, painting and spending time with her loved ones.

Lindsey is a native of Cincinnati. Born and raised on the east side of the city, she attended Ursuline Academy for high school graduating in 2017. Throughout high school she was a competitive cheerleader and a part of the Archbishop Moeller High School marching band as a member of the Colorguard. From there she went on to earn her bachelor's degree in 2021 studying exercise and sports science from Coastal Carolina University. After graduation, she went to the University of Michigan to earn her master's degree in athletic training. Lindsey had a wide variety of rotations including men's gymnastics, women's field hockey, men's lacrosse, and during the summer of 2022 she worked with Carolina Crown Drum & Bugle Corps. She is a member of NATA. When she is not at work, Lindsey enjoys travelling, reading, and spending time with friends and family.

Jen is a Wisconsin native. She received her bachelor’s degree in athletic training from the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse in 2012 and her master’s degree in athletic training from the University of Kentucky (UK) in 2014. While at UK, she worked as a graduate assistant athletic trainer for a local Fayette County High School, two Middle Schools, UK Club Hockey and Lacrosse, as well as, in clinic at UK Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. Prior to coming to Cincinnati Children’s in 2017, Jen worked at the University of Michigan as the primary athletic trainer for the Men’s and Women’s Tennis program for three years. Jen received her master’s degree in business administration and health care management in 2022 from UT-Tyler. Jen is a member of the NATA, GLATA, and OATA.
