• Improving the Care for Injured Children

The Cincinnati Children’s Trauma Service is one of the largest children’s hospital-based trauma services in the United States and a leader in improving the care for injured children – from prevention to recovery. We strive to eliminate injury as the leading cause of death for children and to be the leader in improving the care of the injured child.  We continue to explore unique ways to improve trauma care across all dimensions of traditional care, including the use of guidelines to reduce disparities in abuse screening, minimizing unnecessary imaging following brain injuries and the use of high-fidelity simulation teamwork training to improve safety and communication.  We work with EMS providers and referring hospitals to improve appropriate and timely transfer of injured children.

Although we wish no family would need the care provided by our trauma team, we are prepared to care for a child and his or her family following serious, life-threatening injuries.

The leadership of Trauma Services at Cincinnati Children’s appreciates the important contributions made by each individual who prevents injuries or impacts the outcome for an injured child and his or her family. Our overarching goal is to facilitate improvement in the continuum of care of the injured child through collaboration, research, prevention, education and advocacy.

Through innovative and cutting-edge approaches, Cincinnati Children’s Trauma Service remains dedicated to continuing to improve the outcome for injured children.
