Bio

Adolescent advocacy through a healthcare institution means giving a meaningful voice to young adult leaders in the establishment of creative sustainable health programs.

Advocacy programs include school-based peer education programs like Postponing Sexual Involvement (PSI), school-based health centers, reclaiming youth in the justice system who have substance abuse or severe emotional health issues, and "Unreleased" -- Young Artists Live in Concert.

With a background in education and counseling, Chris Kraus, JD, MTS, became involved with the Cincinnati Postponing Sexual Involvement Program in 1990 as the first PSI coordinator for Children's.

A native Cincinnatian, Kraus earned a law degree from Chase College of Law, Northern Kentucky University, while coordinating the PSI program in the Cincinnati Public Schools for 4,000 students annually.

Currently, as adolescent advocacy manager, Kraus leads other hospital initiatives, such as school-based health centers, adolescent justice programs, and a city-wide youth talent showcase, while maintaining active involvement in daily PSI operations.

Kraus' professional accomplishments include:

  • Chairing the ethics committee of national accreditation board for psychotherapy
  • Founding a nationally recognized educational teen theatre; The Troubadours of Northern Kentucky
  • Directing a nationally recognized teen pregnancy prevention media campaign
  • Writing successful grant applications for public health projects
