Conditions Treated

The Aerodigestive and Sleep Center treats children with: 

  • Chronic airway disorders requiring tracheotomy, ventilation or supplemental oxygen
  • Neurologic and sleep disorders affecting ventilation
  • Anatomic disorders of the pharynx, larynx or esophagus that limit oral feeding
  • Feeding and swallowing disorders or special feeding needs

Special conditions treated at the center include:

  • Achalasia
  • Airway obstruction
  • Aphonia
  • Apnea (central and obstructive)
  • Bronchomalacia
  • Bronchopulmonary dysplasia
  • Caustic ingestion with stricture
  • Chronic aspiration (tracheotomy dependent)
  • Colon interposition
  • Craniofacial syndromes that cause airway obstruction and associated feeding problems
  • Dysphagia
  • Esophageal atresia
  • Esophageal web or stricture
  • Feeding disorders
  • Gastroesophageal reflux (GER)
  • Glottic stenosis
  • Hypoplastic lung
  • Hypoventilation
  • Interstitial lung disease
  • Laryngeal atresia
  • Laryngeal cleft
  • Laryngeal web
  • Laryngeal/tracheal/bronchial papillomatosis (sexually transmitted diseases)
  • Laryngomalacia (usually severe cases)

  • Tracheoesophageal fistula (TEF)
