Overview
Directed by Robin T. Cotton, MD, the Aerodigestive and Sleep Center (ADSC) at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center is internationally known for its expertise in the evaluation and treatment of chronically ill children with complex airway, pulmonary, upper digestive tract, sleep, and feeding disorders. Physicians at the center treat upwards of 500 children each year. These children come to the Aerodigestive and Sleep Center from all around the world.
The center brings together an interdisciplinary group of highly skilled physicians and nurses who provide coordinated and well-integrated care, patient / parent education, and ongoing evaluation of patient progress. The core team comprises faculty from four Cincinnati Children's divisions:
An active clinical research program that focuses on improving clinical care is also an important component of the center.
Since children who come to the Aerodigestive and Sleep Center often suffer from more than one disorder and must be seen by more than one physician, they benefit from our being able to schedule back-to-back appointments in one location with experts from a variety of medical and surgical subspecialties. All physicians share a single patient record and together develop a collaborative treatment plan. To lessen the strain on families, all evaluations and tests are scheduled in as few days as possible.
Pediatric nurse practitioners work closely with physicians and families to ensure coordinated care. They also serve as a valuable resource, being readily available to answer questions and address concerns.
Families are considered to be an integral part of the Cincinnati Children's team.
