Anesthesia

Educational Options

The Department of Anesthesia at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center provides education in anesthesia -- particularly pediatric anesthesia -- for fellows.

Cincinnati Children's is the busiest pediatric surgical center in the world. Our annual case load is approximately 20,000 patients. The 18-room operating suite is located in a hospital tower Location B. We have more than 20 attending anesthesiologists on the faculty, many of whom are boarded in both pediatrics and anesthesiology.

All surgical subspecialties are well represented here: cardiac and thoracic surgery, neonatal surgery, trauma surgery, renal and liver transplantation, orthopedics including spinal fusion, plastic surgery including major craniofacial reconstruction, urology, and pediatric otolaryngology -- head and neck surgery.

A particular strength of our institution is reconstruction of the pediatric airway. Our active pediatric pain service cares for more than 600 patients each year, providing epidural and PCA analgesia for postoperative patients, managing cancer and sickle cell pain, as well as consulting on chronic pain problems.
