Aural Habilitation Program

It emphasizes the use of residual hearing through the appropriate amplification device.

Activities are designed to teach the parent how to foster auditory skills and create a listening environment for their hearing-impaired child. The main objective is to enhance listening skills for the purpose of improved communication by progressing through an auditory skills hierarchy, which consists of:

Sound Detection: The awareness of sound.

Discrimination: The ability to perceive similarities and differences between two or more speech sounds.

Identification: The ability to label.

Auditory Comprehension: The ability to understand meaning of speech.

The goal is intended to enable your child to function to his / her maximum potential within a hearing society. The age of your child when the hearing loss is identified, degree of usable hearing, parental compliance of therapy activities, and cognitive skills are all factors that my impact the child's success as an independent communicator.
