Description

Assistive technology evaluation, treatment and follow-up are offered at the Perlman Center and in the community in areas of:

  • augmentative communication
  • adaptive computer technology
  • power mobility
  • environmental controls

Through the Center's extensive resource lab, state-of-the-art technology is available for evaluation by an occupational therapist and/or speech therapist specializing in assistive technology and its application for children and adults. If equipment is recommended, justification for funding is provided. User training as well as training for other individuals interacting with the child is available.

The assistive technology team will work closely with other treating therapists to make sure that the technology used by the child is integrated into all environments. Consultation to schools for individual children in need of assistive technology support is provided to maximize school inclusion and performance.

The Perlman Center offers a wide array of training opportunities to the community, primarily through the Southwest Special Education Regional Resource Center (SERRC). Workshops and inservice training to groups can be arranged upon request in a variety of areas of technology applications.
