Bio

Rebecca G. Kniskern, PhD, is a clinical psychologist who provides assessment and treatment to children, adolescents and families. She is also a registered nurse who worked in adult and child inpatient psychiatry from 1974 to 1980.

Dr. Kniskern completed her graduate training in 1989. Afterwards, she was intregal in re-establishing the Behavior Unit (a Cincinnati Children's psychiatric unit dedicated to the treatment of young children and children in need of behavioral medicine approaches).

Children with feeding-thriving problems were a population on the Behavior Unit, and led to Dr. Kniskern's involvement with the Feeding Team and with Gastroenterology patients, both inpatients and those seen at clinic. Problems of this nature were the topics of her graduate research (Type I diabetes and encopresis, specifically), and have remained a strong interest in her practice.

In 1993, Dr. Kniskern opened her private practice of child-family treatment in Anderson Township. During this tenure, the scope of problems increased to a more general practice with emphasis on child-family issues. Yet, she also worked with adults individually and with couples.

Types of problems that became interests during this six-year period were anxiety and mood disorders in children, adolescents and adults along with whole family therapy. In conjunction with her family interest, Dr. Kniskern teaches the family therapy course to Doctoral students at Xavier University.

Dr. Kniskern returned to Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center during September 1999, as a staff psychologist at Outpatient Services -- Eastgate. She will continue to work with individual adults and families along with adolescents and children.
