Bio

Dr. Harris's primary interest is in aplastic anemia and the various forms of hereditary bone marrow failure syndromes. He is active with the Fanconi Anemia Research Fund presenting at both the annual family meeting and the annual scientific meeting. Likewise he is active in the field of Shwachman Diamond syndrome and is developing a US / Canadian SDS Registry. He also is participating in the development of the International SDS Registry. He is director of the Bone Marrow Failure Clinic at Cincinnati Children's Hospital where several hundred children are followed with these disorders. He is active in developing safe approaches to bone marrow transplantation for children with these disorders. His interest in these areas were recognized by the presentation to him of the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Fanconi Anemia Research Fund in 2005.

Outside of his medical interests, he is a scoutmaster of a very active and large Boy Scout Troop in Cincinnati and has been presented the Silver Beaver Award for his scouting activities, the highest award a volunteer scouter can receive.
