Blood and Marrow Transplantation Packing List
The team of the Blood and Marrow Transplantation (BMT) Program at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center provides this information about what to pack in their Family Handbook.
For Children
- Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center provides hospital apparel for the patient. However, you may also choose to bring several sets of very comfortable clothing, such as extra large T-shirts, pull-on pants, socks, underwear, shoes, slippers and nightshirts or pajamas to wear as well.
- Favorite blanket or toy that can be machine washed regularly (Child Life can provide other toys, crafts, books, games, etc.)
- Favorite audio and videotapes (Child Life has a lending library.)
- Lots of family photographs! Don't forget pet photos!
- Addresses of friends and the name, address and phone number of your child's school
- Electronic handheld games
A Special Note: Personal blankets and toys left tucked inside the hospital bed during daily linen change may not be recognized and may be inadvertently shipped out for cleaning, often not to able to be returned.
For Parents
- Prescription medications
- Health insurance identification card
- Proof of guardianship, if appropriate
- Comfortable clothing and shoes (you will have access to a washer and dryer)
- Umbrella
- Phone numbers and addresses of family, friends, employer, neighbors and your child's medical care providers in your hometown
- A few good books or small craft projects
- Laptop computer, if desired, for work or recreation during down times
- Cards to send to relatives
- Disposable or inexpensive camera and film
- Favorite audio tapes, small radio and video tapes or DVDs from home (Your room will have a TV, a VCR, a DVD player, a PC laptop and a CD radio.)
Special Considerations
- You will have access to a washer and dryer on the floor; however, each family must bring their own laundry detergent, as none will be provided.
- Because of potential latex allergies, latex balloons are not allowed in patient rooms; however, you may bring mylar balloons.
- Because of potential infection problems, floral arrangements are not allowed in patient rooms; however, candy or cookie bouquets are always welcome.
IMPORTANT: Please mark all items that you bring to the hospital with your child's name.
