Specialized Care for Children and Young Adults with Blood Diseases

The Cancer and Blood Diseases Institute’s Division of Hematology, led by Russell Ware, MD, PhD, provides comprehensive, specialized care for children and young adults with blood diseases. Our physicians and researchers conduct extensive clinical and laboratory research in hopes of improving the lives and prognosis of patients with blood diseases. They play a leading role in many national and international clinical studies, providing patients with early access to innovative therapies and treatments that are not widely available. Experts from multiple specialties work together to care for patients with a variety of conditions.

Centers & Programs

The Hemangioma and Vascular Malformation Center at Cincinnati Children’s is one of the largest multidisciplinary centers in the country for vascular anomalies, or blood vessels that have developed abnormally. Learn more.

Cincinnati Children’s provides comprehensive, multidisciplinary care for children and young adults with mild, moderate and severe forms hemophilia and other bleeding disorders. We offer leading-edge treatments, extensive education and home care services to encourage independence and improve quality of life. Learn more.

Young women in particular may benefit from our Young Women with Bleeding Disorders Clinic at Cincinnati Children’s. The clinic is deigned for patients who are experiencing abnormal menstrual bleeding, hemophilia, von Willebrand disease or low von Willebrand factor.

The Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center at Cincinnati Children’s is a national leader in caring for children with sickle cell disease, thalassemia and other hemoglobin disorders. Our center is large enough to offer exceptional patient care and research, yet small enough for us to get to know children and families to personalize their care. Learn more.

The Thrombosis Program at Cincinnati Children’s provides comprehensive, specialized care for children and young adults with thrombosis and thrombophilia, including deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism and other clotting disorders.
