Overview
The faculty and staff at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center support breastfeeding as the optimal nutrition for infants. The Cincinnati Children's Center for Breastfeeding Medicine assists in coordinating lactation-related education, research and clinical activities ongoing at the medical center.
The Center for Breastfeeding Medicine is a multidisciplinary effort and is headed by Medical Director Sheela Geraghty, MD, MS, IBCLC, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, Division of General and Community Pediatrics and Center for Epidemiology and Biostatistics, and Program Administrator Letitia Hess, MS, RD, Senior Clinical Director, Division of Nutrition Therapy.
The overall goal of the Center for Breastfeeding Medicine is to facilitate collaboration between scientists, health care providers and families to help mothers breastfeed longer.
Milk Donation
Cincinnati Children's is a donor milk collection site for the Mother's Milk Bank of Ohio located in Columbus. Mothers interested in donating their milk for other infants in need should contact the Mother's Milk Bank of Ohio at 614-544-0813 for information on becoming a donor mom. The Mother's Milk Bank of Ohio is a member of the Human Milk Bank Association of North America. The bank, which is supported by Grant Medical Center, provides human milk to premature infants, babies and toddlers who are failing to thrive or have life-threatening diseases or conditions.
