Sickle Cell Research Scholar
The Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center receives funding from the National Institutes of Health to support a young faculty member who is focusing his or her research career on sickle cell research. There are only 11 such programs across the country.
The current Sickle Cell Research Scholar is Ajay Perumbeti, MD, whose work focuses on gene therapy for sickle cell disease.
Professional Education
The Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center actively trains and educates other professionals in the field. For example, each year we host a national “Hemoglobinoapthy Counselor Training Course” for professionals who counsel families about the genetics of sickle cell disease.
Our physicians and staff also present at national meetings, such as those sponsored by the American Society of Hematology and the National Institutes of Health.
Student Summer Research Program
We also offer a challenging summer internship program for high school students. Sponsored by the National Heart, Lung and Blood
