Expert Care for Clotting Disorders
The Thrombosis Center at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center provides comprehensive, specialized care for children and young adults with thrombosis and thrombophilia, including deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism and other clotting disorders. We also provide consultation and counseling to those who may be at risk for these diseases due to their family history or other factors.
The Thrombosis Center at Cincinnati Children’s is one of the few facilities in the United States specifically designed to provide comprehensive services for patients with clotting disorders. Our expert team of physicians, nurses and social workers provides early, accurate diagnoses, appropriate medical care and extensive patient education.
We also provide support for children and families dealing with thrombosis and thrombophilia. Our social workers play an important role by guiding families to community resources. And our school intervention specialists can help ease the transition back to school after hospitalization, by working with a child’s teachers.
Ralph A. Gruppo, MD, director of the Hemostasis and Thrombosis Center, has dedicated his career to caring for children with clotting disorders. Dr. Gruppo and other physicians on the medical team participate in many national and international research studies, and develop their own research protocols as well. This can provide patients with early access to new therapies that are not widely available.
