We specialize in using transplant therapies to treat cancer, rare genetic conditions such as immune deficiency disorders, and bone marrow failure syndromes such as Fanconi anemia.
Our multidisciplinary team has performed more than 1,300 transplants in the program’s 20-year history — currently about 80 children each year. In 2009, our experts performed 93 transplants- making us one of the largest programs in the United States.
The director of the Division of Bone Marrow Transplantation and Immune Deficiency is Stella M. Davies, MBBS, PhD, MRCP. Dr. Davies and her colleagues have developed disease-specific transplant regimens that have improved outcomes and are now the international standard of care. The team of internationally recognized specialists manages every stage of treatment.
Innovative Approach
Our team has a reputation for offering therapies and techniques that are not widely available. For example, we have extensive experience in the use of reduced intensity preparative regimens, a transplant procedure that offers lower doses of chemotherapy, which can offer improved outcomes in very high risk patients.
In addition, we have pioneered new applications for blood and marrow transplant. We were the first to use transplant to cure genetic disorders such as autoimmune lymphoproliferative syndrome (ALPS). Such innovations have paved the way for further research and refinement of many blood and marrow transplant techniques.
The program is certified by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy for its high-quality patient care and laboratory performance.

In addition to providing exceptional medical care, the Bone Marrow Transplantation Program offers extensive support services to help families through every step of the transplant process. We provide assistance with lodging, transportation and other concerns. We also provide services which address the emotional needs that families have at this challenging time in their lives.
