The Cancer and Blood Diseases Institute at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center is a national leader in caring for children and adolescents with cancer. Our experienced physicians offer the most advanced therapies for patients who are newly diagnosed, and those seeking innovative treatments for rare, relapsed and recurrent cancers. These physicians possess the expertise and resources to care for those with very challenging conditions that other pediatric hospitals may consider too difficult to treat.
At Cincinnati Children's, our cancer doctors are not generalists. Rather, they specialize in treating specific cancers, developing a deep understanding of the disease and treatment options that offer the most promise. Areas of specialty include:
Our physicians work closely with nurses, social workers and other members of the care team to provide early, accurate diagnoses, appropriate medical treatment, family support and patient education. The team strives to help patients maintain a "normal" life by helping them keep up in school and providing treatment on an outpatient (rather than inpatient) basis whenever possible.
Cancer Survivor Program
Survivors of childhood cancer can face long-term health issues. That's why Cincinnati Children's provides extensive care and support for cancer survivors, through its Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) 5+ Cancer Survivor Center. There, patients of all ages receive specialized medical care and psychosocial support.
Hereditary Cancer Program
The Hereditary Cancer Program consists of a team of genetic counselors and physicians with experience in cancer risk assessment. Our goal is to provide an evaluation of cancer risk and to help individuals and their physicians understand and utilize genetic information to make personalized and appropriate screening and medical management decisions.
Leading-edge Research
Our physicians and researchers play a leading role in many national and international clinical studies of new cancer treatments, some of which were developed in laboratories and clinics here at Cincinnati Children/s. Our focus on research provides our patients with early access to new anticancer therapies, sometimes years before they become widely available.
