Our Distinguished Experts

The director of the Kidney Tumor Program at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center is James I.Geller, MD. Dr. Geller has extensive experience in caring for patients with kidney tumors and in conducting research to find more effective treatment options.

Dr. Geller serves as the Developmental Therapeutics Subcommittee Chair for the Children’s Oncology Group Renal Tumor Committee. In this capacity, he is leading national efforts to discover and implement novel drugs in the treatment of newly diagnosed and recurrent pediatric kidney cancer. Dr. Geller is also leading the national study of pediatric renal cell carcinoma being conducted through Children’s Oncology Group, the world’s largest pediatric oncology research organization. He and other experts at Cincinnati Children’s are working to better understand what causes kidney tumors and identify novel therapy options.

Dr. Geller works closely with John J. Bissler, MD, a nephrologist at Cincinnati Children’s. Dr. Bissler was recently appointed to serve as the first committee nephrologist for the Children’s Oncology Group Renal Tumor Committee. This is the national committee for the development and implementation of clinical research trials for the treatment of pediatric kidney cancer. Dr. Bissler focuses on clinical and scientific research in neoplastic growth in the kidneys, with a specific focus on tuberous sclerosis and renal angiomyolipomas.
