Fun in the Sun at Summer Camp!
All children like having fun. That’s why, at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, we’ve created a week-long overnight summer camp experience for all our patients with cancer, blood diseases and immune disorders. It’s an opportunity for kids ages 7-16 to develop new skills, form lasting friendships and build their self-esteem, all while having a great time. Perhaps the greatest benefit of camp is the opportunity for children to connect with others who are facing similar challenges.
“Hem / Onc Kids Camp” takes place at Joy Outdoor Education Center in Clarksville, Ohio. The staff works closely with the Cincinnati Children’s medical team to create a safe, supportive environment for children, no matter what their abilities. The camp provides:
- Activities such as the tower climb, swimming, rafting trips, fishing, archery, horseback riding, arts and crafts, and campfire time
- Around-the-clock medical monitoring by hematology/oncology physicians and nurses from Cincinnati Children’s
- Educational programs to help children become more independent in managing their condition
Activities are designed so that all children can participate, and rehabilitation therapists are on hand to modify specific activities as needed. Campers are invited to bring along a sibling for the week of fun.
Summer camp is provided at no charge to children and their families, thanks to the generous support of donors. Learn about giving opportunities.
