The Leukemia and Lymphoma Program of the Cancer Center at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center offers state-of-the art care for children and young adults.
Specialized Care Units
The Leukemia and Lymphoma Program provides a specialized oncology inpatient ward and a dedicated pediatric blood / marrow transplantation ward with a total of 48 beds, including a pediatric radiopharmaceutical therapy suite. Outpatient infusional therapy is delivered in a new specialized Oncology / BMT Day Hospital with 13 beds.
A dedicated outpatient operating suite with specialized pediatric anesthesiologists is incorporated into the oncology clinic for diagnostic and therapeutic lumbar punctures, bone marrow studies and other procedures.
Children's Oncology Group
The Leukemia and Lymphoma Program is a major referral center for clinical care and clinical research of the national Children's Oncology Group. The program also is a major center for referral care of children with high-risk and relapsed disease.
NCI Consortium
Cincinnati Children's is a key center of the National Cancer Institute's Pediatric Phase I Consortium, focusing on new anti-cancer drug research initiatives for children. A leading expert in leukemia therapy and new anticancer drug development, John P. Perentesis, MD, FAAP, serves on the national Steering Committee for the consortium. Dr. Perentisis also leads leukemia relapse efforts for the Children's Oncology Group.
Blood and Marrow Transplantation
Cincinnati Children's is a leading international referral center for blood and marrow transplantation for leukemias, myelodysplasia and lymphomas. Stella M. Davies, MBBS, PhD, MRCP, leads our Blood and Marrow Transplantation Program. Dr. Davies is an internationally-noted expert in transplant. She serves as the Chair of the Center for International Bone Marrow Transplant Research and as a member of the Board and Executive Committee of the National Marrow Donor Program.
Living with Leukemia
Our Leukemia and Lymphoma Program focuses on ways to improve the difficult task of living with leukemia and the demanding aspects of therapy over the years.
- Dennis Drotar, PhD, leads a new program to study ways to help with adherence to long-term medication regimens at home.
- Douglas Ris, PhD, ABPP-Cn is leading a National Institutes of Health-funded effort studying cognitive and neuropsychological outcomes of cancer therapy.
- Susan Rose, MD is an international expert on endocrine complications of pediatric malignancies and their treatment.
