Expert Care for Children When Safety Is the Greatest Concern

When there are concerns about possible abuse or neglect, families often feel overwhelmed and unsure what comes next. At the Mayerson Center for Safe and Healthy Children, our team provides compassionate, trauma-informed care in a safe, child-focused environment. We help children while supporting caregivers through every step of the evaluation process.

Our experts evaluate children with concerns including child sexual abuse, physical abuse, medical child abuse, neglect and human trafficking. As one of only a few hospital-based Child Advocacy Centers in the country, we work closely with community partners to help children receive the care and support they need while minimizing additional stress. We care for approximately 1,800 to 2,000 children each year from throughout Southwest Ohio, Northern Kentucky and Southeastern Indiana.

What can my family expect during a visit?

Every child's situation is different. Your care team will explain the evaluation, answer your questions and help you understand what happens next. Depending on your child's needs, the visit may include a medical examination, conversations with trained professionals and connections to community resources. Additional information is available through our What to Expect and Patient and Family Resources pages.

Child Abuse Evaluation and Family Support

Child Advocacy Center Expertise

The Mayerson Center is one of only a few Child Advocacy Centers in the nation that are located within a children's hospital. Our program helped establish national standards for evaluating children when abuse is suspected. Children’s Advocacy Centers must meet rigorous standards that focus on high-quality, child-centered care to achieve accreditation. The Mayerson Center is proud to be accredited by the National Children’s Alliance.

Team-Based Care That Supports Your Family

A Child Advocacy Center is built on collaboration. Our team-based care model brings together medical providers, social services, law enforcement, child protective services, prosecutors and victim advocates. Working together helps reduce repeated interviews, improve communication and creates a more coordinated experience for children and families.

Care Designed Around Your Child

Every child deserves care that feels safe and respectful. Our specialists use a trauma-informed approach to help children feel as comfortable as possible during their visit. We explain each step in simple terms, answer questions and support caregivers throughout the visit.

Serving Children Across Our Community

The Mayerson Center provides care for children from 22 Ohio counties as well as Northern Kentucky and Southeastern Indiana. Each year, our team cares for approximately 1,800 to 2,000 children, working closely with healthcare providers, child protective services and law enforcement to help ensure children receive the care and protection they need.
