Clinical Assessment Services

The Child Abuse Team at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center provides clinical assessment services for possible or suspected child abuse.

  • Forensic Interview: Child Abuse Team members who are trained in forensic interview approaches are available to conduct non-leading forensic interviews of suspected or alleged child abuse victims.
  • Medical Examinations: Child Abuse Team physicians conduct medical evaluations in cases of suspected physical and sexual abuse, neglect, Shaken Baby Syndrome and Munchausen Syndrome By Proxy.
  • Emergency Assessments: Emergency Department physicians and social workers at Cincinnati Children's are available around the clock, seven days a week, for emergency assessments in cases of suspected child abuse and neglect in the Greater Cincinnati area.   • Scheduled Assessments: Physicians and social workers are available for scheduled assessments of children in cases of suspected abuse. Please call 513-636-SAFE for details or to arrange appointments.
  • Failure to Thrive Evaluation and Treatment: Members of the Child Abuse Team are available for expert diagnosis and treatment of Failure to Thrive in infants, including evaluation of abuse and neglect implications. Please call 513-636-SAFE to arrange an appointment.
  • Osteogenesis Imperfecta Testing and Consultation: Physicians at Children's Hospital Medical Center of Cincinnati provide expert evaluation of suspected Osteogenesis Imperfecta or other causes of bone fragility.
  • Rape Examinations: The Child Abuse Team and the Emergency Department provide acute care and crisis intervention for victims of rape and sexual assault. The medical examination may include forensic evidence collection.
