Tethered Cord and Problems Associated with Anorectal Malforations

Tethered Cord

A complication arising in children born with anorectal malformations / imperforate anus is presence of a tethered cord.

It is recommended that children born with a colorectal malformation be screened for tethered cord with an MRI and a review by a pediatric neurologist. A spinal ultrasound is an excellent screening test when done before three months of age.
