Anorectal Malformations / Imperforate Anus Diagnosis
In every case at the Colorectal Center at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, early diagnosis and treatment is most important, since the earlier a correct diagnosis is made, the more effective the treatment can be.
Today, we continue to make advances in diagnostic techniques, particularly in the area of prenatal diagnosis.
However, even as we continue our work in this important new area, it is critical to stress that immediate postnatal diagnosis in the form of a perineal inspection is performed on all newborn children.
In the event that the physical exam reveals an anorectal malformation / imperforate anus, initial management of that malformation must proceed immediately.
