Bio

Basilia Zingarelli, MD, PhD, received her MD degree in 1990 and her PhD degree in Experimental Medicine in 1997 from the University of Messina, Italy.

Following a two-year research fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, Dr. Zingarelli was recruited as research fellow at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center in 1995. She is presently a faculty member of the School of Medicine at the University of Cincinnati.

Dr. Zingarelli's research focuses on the mechanisms of cardiovascular dysfunction during sepsis, hemorrhagic shock, and ischemia and reperfusion injury, and the alteration of the microcirculation and tissue structure and function during inflammatory bowel diseases.

Specifically, her research efforts concentrate on studying the regulation of infiltration of inflammatory cells and the release of inflammatory mediators in the site of injury, and on the investigation of novel therapeutic approaches.
