In addition to the internet resources provided in this Special Needs Resource Directory, there are many helpful book resources available as well. The Center for Infants and Children with Special Needs at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center recommends the following web sites to help you locate these resources:

  • ADD Warehouse offers print resources on attention deficit / hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), oppositional defiant disorder, asperger's, autism, tourette's, and learning problems. The web site also features free articles on these disorders and a free newsletter.
  • ADDvance has information and reading materials on ADD and ADHD.
  • Charles C. Thomas Publisher offers a wide selection of publications, ranging in topics from therapy to specific disabilities.
  • Children's Disability Books offers book reviews on disability-related topics, such as ADHD, adoption, autism and parenting a special needs child. Books can then be purchased from Amazon.com, or from Exceptional Books Shop which sells used books.
  • Disabilities Books offers books, videos, and other products of interest to adults and children with disabilities, caregivers of special needs children and professionals who service persons with disabilities.
  • Disability Solutions is a free publication with a mission "to provide in a widely accessible manner, free of charge, information that is useful, sensitive and current to everyone concerned with developmental disabilities: parents, families, self-advocates and professionals."
  • Exceptional Parent (EP) Magazine provides information for families of children with disabilities. They also offer an extensive online EP Library with publications on specific disabilities, health care resources, advocacy and special education.
  • Georgetown University Center for Child and Human Development has publications on developmental disabilities and special health needs, mental health and early childhood issues.
  • Jessica Kingsley Publishers, Inc. publishes books ranging from topics on mental health, autism, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, traumatic brain injury, and intellectual disabilities.
  • Magination Press has a variety of books, written for children, dealing with specific disabilities and conditions.
  • Parent Magic, Inc. offers easy-to-learn parenting solutions for all children of all ages, which are especially effective for children with Attention Deficit Disorder.
  • Remedia Publications offers a variety of materials to support special education.     
  • Special Needs Project provides information about books related to disabilities. Popular search categories are books for parents, books for children, books for siblings, independent living, full inclusion, autism and ADHD.
  • Twins Magazine offers online and print resources for parents of twins.
  • Woodbine House specializes in books for parents, professionals and children on topics including special education and information about specific disabilities.
