Information for Families of Children with Special Health Care Needs

When you have a child with special health care needs, you are faced with the constant challenge of finding information, resources and services. The Special Needs Resource Directory, created by the Center for Infants and Children with Special Needs at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, is a comprehensive accumulation of resources for the Southwest Ohio area. Resources unique to Kentucky and Indiana are also featured, as well as national and international web site links. Parents, caregivers and health care providers can find local, regional and national web site links to:
- Locate information on specific disabilities
- Identify strategies to help you advocate for your child
- Develop community connections for ongoing support
- Overcome barriers to access health care resources

How to Use the Special Needs Resource Directory
- Search by TopicSelect the topic of interest from the list on the left-hand side of the screen. This list is called the navigation bar and it will always be on your left to make moving between topics easier, no matter where you are in the directory. Click on any of the topics to find local and national resources that will help you in each area. Some of the supports we include may be unique to Ohio, so remember to also check out the Kentucky and Indiana sections to find additional resources in your community.
- Search by KeywordUse the Search the Special Needs Resource Directory box to type one or two important or significant words that describe the subject or resource you are trying to find. You will see a results page that you can use to connect to the sections of the resource directory where the word(s) appear.
- Links to Other Web SitesTo locate links to other web sites, look for words that are blue and underlined, then move the cursor over these words and click once.
- Computer AccessComputers are available in the Family Resource Center located on the second floor of Cincinnati Children's Burnet Campus and in the Jack H. Rubinstein Libraries at 3430 North Burnet. These areas also have resources related to children with special needs.
