Advocacy

Arc of Kentucky is a statewide organization that advocates on behalf of people with mental retardation and related disabilities and their families. The organization supports local chapters providing early intervention programs, services to adults, advocacy, information and referral.
Kentucky Disabilities Coalition is a statewide alliance dedicated to supporting individuals with disabilities.
The Kentucky Legislature helps you identify your Kentucky State Legislators by county and district. After you identify your legislators, you can then email them directly from this web site.
Kentucky legislators and state agencies can provide you with information and assistance about disability issues in your state, as well as assistance with letter writing and other legislative concerns.
Kentucky Protection & Advocacy Services assists citizens of Kentucky who have a disability and are either being denied a right or are being discriminated against because of that disability.
Kentucky Education Rights Center provides educational advocacy resources and services to families of children with disabilities.

Kentucky Department of Education: Division of Exceptional Services has information on special education.
Kentucky First Steps oversees early intervention services for children from birth to age 3 who have a developmental delay or a particular medical condition that is known to cause a developmental delay. Contact information for each district is provided.

Financial Assistance

Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission provides a variety of emergency assistance with utility bills, prescription help, food, clothing, shelter and day care.
Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services provides a variety of services and supports including:

New Waivers that will provide expanded services to support individuals with mental retardation and developmental disabilities in community settings, rather than in institutions.

Hart-Supported Living Grant can provide financial support for individuals with disabilities to live in and participate in their communities.

Almost Family Caretenders, located in Northern Kentucky, provides nursing case management, respite, homemaking and personal care for children and adults with disabilities. They are a Kentucky Medicaid funded program, 859-341-6888.

Legal Assistance

Legal Aid of the Bluegrass provides legal assistance to lower income and other vulnerable people through direct representation, education, advice, advocacy and coordination with other community resources.
Legal Aid Network of Kentucky provides legal assistance to lower income individuals.

Mental Health

Mental Health Association of Northern Kentucky: Resource Directory provides information about resources for clinical services, extended care facilities, hospitals, screenings, support groups and shelters.
NorthKey Community Care identifies and treats children with mental health issues.

Kentucky Cabinet for Health Services provides eligible Kentucky Medicaid recipients with cab vouchers for medical appointments.
Kentucky Motor Vehicle Licensing System has application forms for disabled persons special parking permit and disability license plates. You can complete the form and bring it into your local county clerk office.
Superior Van and Mobility sells mobility vans and adaptive equipment.
