Dialysis Unit

The Dialysis Unit at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center is committed to improving the quality of life for every child.

Cincinnati Children's is among the nation's leaders in break-through treatment and exceptional pediatric care, and in this setting, the Dialysis Unit has become one of the largest pediatric dialysis programs in the country. We provide extensive facilities for the care of acute and chronic renal failure as well as hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and training and support of home dialysis.

We are dedicated to providing high quality services in everything we do, from initial scheduling to the provision of clinical services.

Faculty and Staff

Our skilled medical team uses a multidisciplinary approach to diagnose, treat and manage children with a variety of conditions. The Dialysis Unit faculty and staff also includes registered nurses experienced in dialysis of children, adolescents and young adults.

A board-certified pediatric nephrology physician assigned to the Dialysis Unit is available in Cincinnati Children's at all times. A pediatric nephrology fellow (a physician who has completed pediatric residency and is in training to become a pediatric nephrologist) may also be assigned to the Dialysis Unit. These physicians are in charge of day-to-day patient management.

Each patient may choose a pediatric nephrology physician as his or her primary physician. Like the primary nurse, this physician is dedicated to long-term management, and will set management goals with the patient and family.
