Advocacy Programs
The Division of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center works closely with community organizations and advocacy groups to foster integration, initiate education about developmental disabilities and improve services and resources.
The Outreach and Community Education Program is active at the local, state and national level to identify resources and best practices. The outreach program provides training and community education to individuals with disabilities, families and service providers throughout the region. The program is a leader in improving service and supports through education and collaboration.
In addition, the Advocacy Programs within the Division of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics contribute to the Hamilton County Board of MR/DD's "Learning for Life," a series of four separate learning sessions with topics reflecting the interests of the individuals attending.
Current program initiatives include:
- Increasing early identification and support through training for early childhood caregivers and providing materials and support to libraries
- Supporting self-advocates and self-advocacy initiatives
- Promoting and supporting emergency preparedness for people with disabilities
- Promotion of community-based health and fitness activities
