Multidisciplinary Care for Spina Bifida

Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center provides comprehensive, multidisciplinary care for infants, children, teens and adults with spina bifida.

The Adult Spina Bifida Clinic

The Adult Spina Bifida Clinic at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center is dedicated to the evaluation and management of adults with Spina Bifida and provides self-care skills counseling by a nurse. The clinic also provides physical medicine and rehabilitation, social work and vocational / educational rehabilitation and is made up of an internal medicine physician, physical medicine and rehabilitation physician, orthotist and nurse.

The clinic is part of the Healthy Transitions Network, a network of Spina Bifida centers studying transition needs of adolescents with Spina Bifida.

Myelomeningocele Clinic

With support by the Ohio Bureau of Children with Medical Handicaps, The Myelomeningocele (Spina Bifida) Program provides comprehensive, family-centered, interdisciplinary, collaborative, culturally sensitive medical care for infants, children and adolescents with Spina Bifida.

The program also provides:

  • Developmental Assessment
  • Longitudinal Evaluation
  • Treatment and Management
  • Team Conferences
  • Counseling
  • Adolescent Program
  • Infant Stimulation
  • Care Coordination and liaison role with school and community for individuals with myelomeningocele ("Spina Bifida") of all ages and their families.
