Marijuana

The Drug and Poison Information Center (DPIC), located at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, provides timely information about drugs and related issues.

Marijuana is referred to by many other names including Pot, Dope, Weed, Hash, Mary Jane, Mota, Puff, Spliff, Herb and Ganja.

The part of the marijuana plant that is used for a high is usually the flowering tops of the plant. The active ingredient, delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (delta-9 THC) is responsible for the mild hallucinogenic, relaxed feelings experienced from smoking the plant.

The term "blunts" refers to marijuana placed in hollowed-out cigars and smoked. Users smoke marijuana to come down from the stimulation produced from the other drugs used to keep them up all night dancing at the raves.
