Promotion of Raves

The Drug and Poison Information Center (DPIC), located at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, provides timely information about drugs and related issues.

Raves are advertised and held upon the securing of a venue, whether lawful or unlawful. In many cases there may be a secondary location picked out should law enforcement raid the first site. The location of the second site is usually provided at the first site.

Unlawful settings are often at out-of-the-way places or rural settings in an effort to minimize law enforcement involvement. Advertisements take the form of flyers that are passed out, or can be found on any of the many rave web sites on the Internet. The flyers promote associations to the cosmos, celestial moondance, good vibes, unity, discovery, infinity, and love, and may have very intricately done artwork that draws attention.

There are also messages about the kind of drugs that will be available at the rave included in the advertisements. Statements of 'to the head' on the flyer refer to drugs that effect the head/brain that will be involved at the rave. In addition, words may also refer to the drugs used such as "g-force" and "fluid" which refer to gamma hydroxybutyric acid (GHB).
