Methamphetamine is a synthetic amphetamine, or stimulant, that is sold in the form of tablets, capsules, powder, and chunks. The drug is often referred to as Speed, Crystal, Meth, Uppers, Bennies, Whizz and Tweak.
The primary effects are stimulation of the nervous system by increasing various chemicals in the body. Effects can last up to 24 hours, depending on the dose and concentration of the drug.
Crystal meth is usually smoked, ingested, or snorted and is highly addicting. The effect sought is a heightened awareness and sense of well being, but there are adverse effects experienced as well.
The stimulation of the nervous system leads to increased heart rate / blood pressure, increased sweating / body temperature, chest pain, irregular heart beats, heart attacks, tremors, seizures, violent behavior, psychosis, insomnia and acne.
Long-term use leads to dependence, potential brain damage and stroke, and liver / kidney damage.
