Bio

Richard M. Ruddy, M.D., is Director of the Division of Emergency Medicine at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at the University of Cincinnati College Of Medicine.

 

Dr. Ruddy joined Cincinnati Children’s in 1991 as Director of Emergency Medicine. Previous appointments include being an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at University of Pennsylvania and CHOP from 1980-85 and Associate Professor of Pediatrics at New York Medical College and Westchester County Medical Center from 1985-91. He earned a bachelor’s degree, graduating cum laude, at the University of Notre Dame, and a medical degree at Georgetown University Medical School, where he was elected to the AOA, as a top graduate of his class.

 

Dr. Ruddy is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, Ambulatory Pediatric Association, American Thoracic Society, American College of Emergency Physicians, Society of Academic Emergency Medicine, and American College of Physician Executives. His service includes membership on several national and statewide committees.

He was a member of the Ohio State Trauma Committee for five years ending in 1997. He is the past Chair of the American Academy of Pediatrics Executive Committee – Section of Emergency Medicine.

 

Dr. Ruddy is the author of numerous papers, abstracts, books and book chapters, including chapters in the Textbook of Pediatric Emergency Medicine and the Textbook of Pediatric Emergency Procedures. He is frequently invited to lecture throughout the world on a wide range of pediatric emergency medical issues. Dr. Ruddy has special interests in, and is an expert on trauma care, injury prevention and acute respiratory disease.
