American Express Members Project: Eosinophilic Esophagitis
Imagine what life would be like if you could not eat . . . Lindsey's story
"Here I was a healthy, normal 19-year-old college student, who could no longer eat any food without getting sick almost immediately." Read Lindsey's story.
Brandon's Story
"Having an illness where there isn't improvement makes it hard to think about the future or make any plans. It really prevents you from wanting to think ahead, or think long-term because there's so much uncertainly. It's taken me away from dreaming, or thinking about what I want to do in the future because there have been so many disappointments along the way." Read Brandon's story.
Leaders in Eosinophil Research
At the Cincinnati Center for Eosinophilic Disorders (CCED), we hear stories everyday from our patients and families around the world. The word is spreading about our breakthrough research. In fact, our research program has been nominated in the American Express "Members Project" as "EE - Save the Children".
Throughout the month of September, American Express card members can vote for innovative projects that help others. American Express is going to fund the winning projects with $2.5 million. Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center is a pioneer in EE research and we encourage you to get involved and vote for this project.
Our Goal: To Develop a Cure
Researchers at the CCED at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center are worldwide leaders in the field. Our research involves basic, clinical and translational studies to determine the reason for the current epidemic of eosinophilic disorders and to develop the best treatment and cure.
Research: Growing knowledge and ever-improving technology
We have an unprecedented ability to truly make a difference for eosinophilic diseases. We are currently studying compounds that block eosinophil production as we strive to develop the next and best treatment for EE.
In the past two years, the CCED has had over 17 articles published in medical journals investigating this disorder, including a recent publication in the New England Journal of Medicine. Read the abstract from PubMed.
Driven by Determination
Research on eosinophilic disorders is undersupported by current grant agencies which are facing the worst shortage crunch in history. With the limited funding available for research, our recognized team of experts strive for a cure. But even with the best minds and dedicated staff, limited financial support impedes this process.Your vote can help ensure that better treatments and the eventual cure will be developed.
