Overview
The Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) Center at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center offers an interdisciplinary approach to the care of patients with Epidermolysis Bullosa.
Our comprehensive program brings patients and families together with highly skilled specialists who have expertise and experience with the multiple aspects of Epidermolysis Bullosa.
We describe ourselves as interdisciplinary because the Epidermolysis Bullosa Center consists of several experts from various specialties who work closely together to create an Integrated Care Plan (ICP) for our patients.
We treat patients with all types of Epidermolysis Bullosa: simplex, junctional and dystrophic. A full description of these types can be found on the DebRA web site.
Our primary mission is to provide comprehensive outpatient consultation and / or continuing care for patients with Epidermolysis Bullosa and their families.
Epidermolysis Bullosa Center co-directors are Anne W. Lucky, MD, Professor of Dermatology and Pediatrics, and Richard G. Azizkhan, MD, Professor of Surgery and Pediatrics at Cincinnati Children's.
The Epidermolysis Bullosa Center's core team includes specialists in:
Plastic Surgery, Ophthalmology, Pediatric Otolaryngology / Head and Neck Surgery, Anesthesiology and Pathology specialists are also consulted as needed.

Epidermolysis Bullosa Center Clinic Visits
The Epidermolysis Bullosa Center has outpatient clinics four to six times per year.
When you contact the Epidermolysis Bullosa Center, one of our staff will mail you a packet of information. Included will be forms to fill out so that we can be familiar with your child and his / her other medical history before the clinic visit.
At the initial visit, each patient is assessed by a core member of the Epidermolysis Bullosa Center team. Evaluations may include:
- Physical examination
- Photographs
- Laboratory work
- Dressing change (Please bring your own supplies with you, if possible)
Patients and families should anticipate the appointment to last at least two hours. Following this initial visit, the team will discuss your child in a post-clinic conference and create an Integrated Care Plan that will be sent to you and your doctors within a few weeks. Appropriate follow-up visits will be decided upon by you and the Epidermolysis Bullosa Center team.
