Every Child Succeeds

Services

Every Child Succeeds is regional program designed to ensure an optimal start for children.

Families who participate in Every Child Succeeds receive a number of services to help maximize their children's development in the first three years of life.

The centerpiece of Every Child Succeeds is home visitation. Every Child Succeeds families receive two to four visits each month from home visitors. To date, Every Child Succeeds has provided more than 268,000 home visits and has served more than 13,700 families.  At any one time, more than 2,000 families are receiving home visits. Each month, more than 240 referrals are made to Every Child Succeeds and 2,900 total visits are provided. Referrals come from community agencies (47%), hospitals (42%) and prenatal clinics (11%).

As part of our ongoing effort to meet client needs, Every Child Succeeds has developed a number of program enhancements over the years. These include the Maternal Depression Treatment Program, Medical Home Initiative, Literacy Program and the Avondale Community Partnership.

      Program Enhancements/Augmented Modules

Every Child Succeeds has developed the following program enhancements to the home visitation program. They are designed to address client needs and include those listed below.

      • The Maternal Depression Treatment Program (MDTP) provides In-Home Cognitive Behavior Therapy (IH-CBT) to clinically depressed mothers enrolled in Every Child Succeeds. IH-CBT is an adapted form of cognitive behavior therapy that is specifically designed to meet the needs of depressed mothers in home visitation. Provided by a trained therapist, IH-CBT helps effectively treat depression, prevent relapse and maximize the impact of home visitation. Preliminary evidence indicates that IH-CBT achieves success rates equivalent to clinical trials of antidepressant medications and cognitive behavior therapy.
      • The Medical Home Initiative is designed to improve access to health care for Every Child Succeeds families and create a team approach to care by enhancing communication among home visitors, families and pediatric practices. Led by a pediatrician and hospital-based nursing officer, the initiative identifies areas of focus and provides tools for home visitors to ensure families have consistent, coordinated care. Another component involves medical residents participating in scheduled home visits, which allows them to gain first-hand experience of the home and community environments in which families live.
      • The Literacy Program, called Literacy Begins at Home, is being presented in collaboration with the National Center for Family Literacy. Over the next three years, Every Child Succeeds will develop, pilot and evaluate literacy materials and curricula specifically targeting children from birth to three years old. Home visitors will share these with Every Child Succeeds families, who will benefit from this enhanced intervention designed to better prepare their children for school. This program is made possible through the generosity of the Dater Foundation and Toyota Engineering and Manufacturing North America.
      • The Avondale Community Partnership began in January 2007 to increase enrollment in this high-risk community and to demonstrate that community health can be positively affected using a high quality, intensive home visitation strategy. Every Child Succeeds maintains a local office at Carmel Presbyterian Church in Avondale to make the program accessible and visible to the surrounding community. Any mother and child in Avondale  who meets the Every Child Succeeds eligibility requirements can participate, thanks to the generosity of donors who helped fund this initiative. In contrast, Every Child Succeeds maintains a waiting list of more than 100 families in the rest of Hamilton County.
