Gamble Program for Clinical Studies

Mission

The Gamble Program for Clinical Studies is focused on the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases caused by viruses such as:

  • Influenza
  • Rotavirus
  • Cytomegalovirus
  • Hepatitis
  • Herpes simplex
  • Other causes of diarrhea and respiratory infections

The program is part of the Division of Infectious Diseases at Children's Hospital Medical Center.

In 1994 and again in 2001 and 2007, the Gamble Program at Cincinnati Children's was designated as one of seven VTEU's, Vaccine and Treatment Evaluation Units of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases of the NIH. These seven-year contracts are dedicated to finding improved vaccines and better treatments for infectious diseases. The Gamble Program's scope of activities include:

  • Development and evaluation of diagnostic assays, vaccines, and antiviral drugs
  • Surveillance of viral and bacterial diseases
  • Development of newer, improved vaccine delivery systems and adjuvants
  • Education about viral diseases, vaccine use, and treatment status to lay, paramedical, and medical communities.
