Unique Features of Genetic Pharmacology Service Pharmacogenetic Testing

Genetic Pharmacology Service for children and adults at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center offers testing for the common variants of major P450 drug metabolizing enzyme genes, including CYP2D6, CYP2C9, CYP2C19. We also offer testing for common variants of the thiopurine-S-methyltransferase (TPMT) gene. These were selected because there is strong scientific evidence that the tested gene variants alter drug metabolism.

  • Tests can be conveniently ordered by drug name from a list of commonly used drugs. A laboratory algorithm automatically selects the major gene(s) that influences that drug's metabolism.
  • Assistance with specimen transport (free within the Cincinnati metropolitan area)
  • Competitive turnaround times; results faxed in two business days
  • Results include predicted metabolizing phenotype (for example, poor metabolizer) and a recommended dose adjustment
  • Results include a list of the most important drug-drug interactions impacting metabolism
  • Genotype results are stored in a safeguarded database and are accessible for interpretation when your patient requires a different drug metabolized by the same enzyme
  • Interpretation from internationally recognized experts in clinical pharmacology and molecular genetics
